László Hatházi
visual art, conceptual art, action art
Artist in residency: October 1 – December 30, 2012
László Hatházi is hungarian visual and conceptual artist. He was born in 1978 in Gyongyos, Hungary. In the years 1997 - 2003 he studied painting program at Hungarian University for Fine Arts.
Since 2007 László Hatházi started collaborate with Balász Antal on action art and other artistic projects that demonstrate the gestures of collection, preservation and gifting. In their earlier projects, seemingly unimportant or obsolete objects from our surroundings are elevated from their original context; for example, the once glorious, now castoff tigers guarding the gates of the Chinese market in the action "Tigers on the market". This unique micro-world evokes the origin of the objects, and, beyond that, it attributes new layers of meaning to such objects.
During the residency he and Balász Antal want focus on retrieving moving images that show buildings from Prague. They will look for segments that include sound bits as well, added to the footage by the filmmakers during original editing. These short, few seconds long scenes are usually found in feature films, however, they may also be present in documentaries or other moving pictures. Images of buildings mainly serve to enhance mood or create a certain atmosphere. They may connect actions, defining and locating the setting for the next film action or the passing of time. Applying melodies and scales from the original music scores that were attributed to the images of buildings, Laszló and Balász would like to make a short film from founded materials.
László Hatházi is supported by Visegrad Artist Residency Program. visegradfund.org/residencies/varp
